About Grenaby Estates
Grenaby, which is a name of Norse origin meaning ‘Green Farm’.
Our island is small in area, but there are a lot of tucks in it, so many that a person could spend years exploring them and still have surprises in store. One of the most delightful of these hidden-away places is the little green hollow called Grenaby, which is a name of Norse origin meaning ‘Green Farm’.
Location
Grenaby Estate lies on the upper reaches of the Silverburn river. Its source originates near the old stronghold of Manannan on South Barrule as a rough, boulder-strewn stream flowing down through rushy and gorsy moanees (bogs/moors). Like a wild creature venturing timidly into the haunts of men, and then becomes as it flows on through Silverdale, under the Monk’s Bridge, past Rushen Abbey, and at last down to the sea through Castletown Harbour.

The Island enjoys stunning scenery, whatever the time of year. It’s easy to get around with plenty of options for days out exploring, walking, cycling, golfing, or visiting one of several award-winning museums and heritage sites.
During summer there are steam trains and electric trams and even horse-drawn trams to add to your Manx experience. And of course, the Island is well-known for its connection with motorsports including the famous TT motorcycle races which take place in late May/early June each year.
The Manx Museum in Douglas is a great place to start with the Story of Man. In Peel, the House of Manannan explores our Celtic and Viking heritage and the National Folk Museum at Cregneash, with its thatched cottages and farm, explores the agricultural lifestyle of more recent years. Just ten minutes from Grenaby, Cregneash Village and the Calf of Man enjoy some of the most breathtaking scenery on the Island. And there is so much more.
Directions from Airport

Exit the Airport and turn left towards Castletown (there are two airport roundabouts – whichever way you exit – follow the Castletown signs). You will pass a garage on your right and at the next roundabout bear right then straight over (second exit) the roundabout. Follow the road until you come to a crossroads and set of traffic lights. Take the turning on the right. Follow the road until you come to another crossroads. Cross straight over, and after half a mile you will see a sign on the left-hand side which says “Grenaby”. Take the turning on the left. Follow the road along for over half a mile, and you will come to a stone-walled entrance and driveway which has the sign “Grenaby Mooar”, along with a Tourist Board Gold 5 Star self-catering sign on it. Follow the driveway, and there is parking on the left.
